The youth arm of the governing Jamaica Labour Party, Young Jamaica says it’s urging the leadership of the PNP to review its political platform code of conduct and communication protocols to ensure accuracy and cauterise what it says is their emerging trended of misinformation.
Young Jamaica says its call comes following consecutive inaccurate comments made on Sunday by Opposition Spokesperson on Information, Nekeisha Burchell, concerning matters of national importance.
According to Young Jamaica it notes that in commenting on a recent attempted arson, Ms. Burchell stated that no security was present at Gordon House.
The youth group says it notes that the Jamaica Constabulary Force has since debunked this notion as false and asserted that members of the Protective Services were in fact on duty at Parliament and quickly intervened when the attempted arson took place.
Young Jamaica says it’s unfortunate that Burchell also stated on Sunday that Health Minister, Dr. Christopher Tufton, got preferential treatment at hospital when the Minister was treated via the same triage system applicable to all patients and waited several hours on surgery.
Young Jamaica says it insists that the PNP leadership offer guidance and specialist training to Burchell and its communication team.
According to Young Jamaica, the guidance and specialist training should focus on the importance of ensuring that comments from the political platform and media statements are both accurate and in good taste and are in line with principles of decency and credibility.
