Vincent Darby, the 22-year-old UK singer-songwriter, delivers a modern take on the golden era sound of the mid-1980s and early-1990s on his brand new single and video “We Could Be.”

Born and raised in Birmingham, England, Vincent is proud to represent the sound of his city – a culmination of the eclectic cultural and musical influences that raised him. Citing influences from British R&B acts like Loose Ends to Sade growing up, Vincent has learned how to set a mood on “We Could Be” that taps into the universal need for physical connection.
Produced by the French contingent Blundetto, “We Could Be,” is a byproduct of the “lockdown sound,” a term the artist uses to describe the timeframe in which the track was written and recorded through the pandemic and the need to break free from the isolation. Vincent Darby quips with a cool demeanor, “loneliness is no friend of mine,” as the punchy synth melody dissolves. The instrumental smoothly fades upbeat to a danceable four on the floor tempo where the “We Could Be” chorus becomes a declaration of optimism.
Ambitions of the spotlight struck Vincent Darby as early as age five. Born in Birmingham, he was raised by his Jamaican mother who sewed her Caribbean homeland’s roots and culture into Vincent’s DNA. The rich flavors and sounds of Jamaican staples are synonymous with Sunday in the Darby household, where Vincent and his cousins would jockey for plates of rice and peas over the melodies of Beres Hammond, Dennis Brown and Bob Marley. “I’m such a family-driven person. “Jamaica is so intertwined with part of who I am. I really value how inclusive everyone is. The moment of one person in the family does well, everyone in that family does well. Little things like that are so important to me,” he says. The burgeoning singer also gives praise to his grandfather (on his mother’s side) for setting his musical foundation, who was a radio DJ at the local hospital. His maternal grandparents were both part of the Windrush generation. They met in England after both coming from Jamaica. It is important for Vincent to dream big and continue a legacy for his family who sacrificed so much for a better life for their children.
“Legacy is so important to me. I want to create a history,” states Vincent with pride.
The graduate of Birmingham’s Ormiston Academy studied music theory and was at the top of his class. “We Could Be” is a precursor to his debut album and follows his 2021 EP Still Here We Are, which landed him a BBC Radio 1 Big Weekend performance and BBC 1Xtra & Radio 1 “Track of the Week” for its lead single “Baby Oh I.”
