Two minors were apprehended in the early hours of this morning in connection with a reported burglary at a restaurant located at the corner of Albert and Racecourse Streets, Belize City. Just after midnight, the police control room received information of a burglary in progress. Officers from the Crimes Investigation Branch (CIB) Precinct One quickly responded to the scene. Upon arrival near Place Yuh Ada Smoke Shack on Racecourse Street, a police corporal observed a young male beside the restaurant, holding a black television. The officer promptly exited the police mobile, at which point the young male attempted to flee but was apprehended, and was found in possession of a knife. Simultaneously, uniform police officers working the Rocky Road detail also responded, leading to the apprehension of a second young male who was attempting to jump a fence. A subsequent inspection of the restaurant revealed that the wooden door on the eastern side of the building had been damaged, and the interior of the establishment had been ransacked. A 42-inch black flat-screen TV was recovered beside the building. Both young males were escorted to the police station where they were identified as an 11-year-old of Neal Pen Road, and a 14-year-old of Rivero Street. Efforts to contact their parents were unsuccessful, and a social worker was contacted to issue their acknowledgement forms.
