Thankfully, the movies set to release give a little bit of something for everyone. It’s clear, summer is for the cinema, so here are some promising picks for your summertime entertainment.

John Wick is on a permanent sabbatical, so a new highly skilled assassin takes the stage. She’s not the biggest, or the strongest, but she gets into the same highly cinematic action sequences as John Wick, meaning audiences are in good hands.

2. How To Train Your Dragon (Live Action) - Out Now

The story of a boy and his dragon, this time in live action. The animated movie gets remade with the same thrilling action, family friendly humour, and heartwarming relationship. Seeing it in 4DX can bring audiences the feeling of flying high with Toothless like never before.

3. Elio - Out Now

The latest from Pixar studios is about a young boy who struggles to make friends with his fellow earthlings, and finds himself on an intergalactic adventure with some friends that are out of this world. Among the stars he may just find that he’s more at home than ever.

4. 28 Years Later

The long awaited sequel to the iconic horror franchise is finally here and it’s sure to bring the scares for anyone looking for thrills in the summer season. With the incredible duo of writer Alex Garland and Director Danny Boyle, it’s sure to be a higher class of zombie movie.

5. M3gan 2.0

Brace yourselves for the return of M3gan. The tik tok trending terminating terror just can’t be kept down. When a rival AI starts wreaking havoc, it’s up to M3gan to fight fire with fire. It promises to be far more comedic than the original and good for anyone up for a fun time.

Brad Pitt gets into the driver’s seat in a new movie about the international sporting phenomenon Formula 1. Directed by Tom Gun Maverick director Joseph KosinsI, expect thrilling sequences that you should only see on the big screen.

7. Jurassic World: Rebirth

For some reason, people just won’t stay away from dinosaurs. It almost never ends well for them, but from the comfort of the cinema, it’s a treat for the senses. A new cast of characters is ready to run from an all new set of hungry beasts, with stars like Scarlett Johanssen, Mahershala Ali, and Jonathan Bailey.

8. Madea’s Destination Wedding

Soon to be available for streaming on Netflix, Tyler Perry’s Madea’s Destination Wedding brings back his historic character for a summer vacation that will certainly deliver the drama and the humour for which Tyler Perry is known.

9. Superman

Superman returns! The world’s most famous superhero gets a new look on the big screen. He’s set for another adventure and for the first time is joined by Krypto the Superdog. Together they’ll face off against giant monsters, super soldiers, and somehow find time to make Clark Kent’s deadlines at the Daily Planet.

This summer, there’s not too many options for animation, so thankfully the Smurfs have arrived to fill the void. The new movie touts an impressive voice cast, including Rihanna who débuts brand new music for the soundtrack.

11. Fantastic Four

Marvel’s first family, finally done right. The new film takes a retro futuristic aesthetic to the classic characters with a new cast that’s going to have to figure out how to save their world from a ravenous foe. Anyone looking forward to next year’s Avengers Doomsday won’t want to miss this one.

12. Freakier Friday

After swapping bodies and living in each other’s shoes, Tess and Anna learned a valuable lesson back in 2003’s Freaky Friday. Now, 22 years later, they’ll have to do it all again, and this time with the next generation in tow. Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis return to their characters.

13. Highest 2 Lowest

Closing out the summer, it’s the latest from visionary director Spike Lee. Reunited with his friend and collaborator Denzel Washington, expect if nothing else a movie that will show you something you’ve never seen before from a mind unlike any other.
