The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service is urging motorists to follow traffic laws during the Easter period after a DUI operation in the Port of Spain Division resulted in 15 arrests.
Police said the exercise took place between 12:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m. on Sunday 5 April 2026 along Park Street, Port of Spain.
According to the TTPS, 14 individuals were arrested for driving with breath alcohol levels above the legal limit. One individual was arrested for driving without being issued a driver’s permit.
Officers also carried out stop-and-search exercises during the operation. Police said 176 vehicles and occupants were checked for firearms and ammunition.
The exercise involved officers from Besson Street Police Station, Belmont Police Station and St Clair Police Station, along with the Port of Spain Municipal Police and the Capital City Patrol Unit.
The TTPS said the operation forms part of ongoing enforcement activity aimed at road safety.
Police are reminding motorists that drinking and driving is a risk to road users. Drivers are being urged to avoid alcohol when operating vehicles, follow speed limits and ensure they are licensed.
The TTPS said increased traffic is expected during the Easter holidays and enforcement exercises will continue.
Members of the public are also being encouraged to make arrangements for a designated driver, follow traffic regulations and observe road safety measures.
