Eighteen suspects were arrested and four firearms and quantities of ammunition and narcotics seized during ongoing State of Emergency Operations in the Southern, South Western and Port of Spain Divisions yesterday, police said in a media statement.
In the Southern Division, an operation was coordinated by DCP Benjamin, ACP Mystar, Snr Supt. Simon and supervised by Supt Jaikaran, ASP Ramsaran, ASP Morales, Insp Wilkinson, Insp Ragbir and Insp Alexander and included officers of the Guard and Emergency Branch, the Inter-Agency Task Force, the Canine Branch, the Municipal Police, Traffic Wardens and Licensing Officers.
The ‘Summer Slam’ exercises were conducted between 4 am and 6 pm, on Wednesday 30th July, 2025 and resulted in the arrest of 12 suspects for various offences, including Possession of Ammunition, Larceny, Driving Without a Driver’s Permit and on State of Emergency enquiries.
A total of 142 Fixed Penalty Notices were also issued to errant motorists. In the San Fernando district, an intelligence-led exercise was conducted between 7 pm and 11 pm, yesterday, which resulted in the arrest of two suspects, for Possession of Firearm and Ammunition and Possession of Cannabis.
Meanwhile, in the South Western Division, four suspects were arrested in the Penal district, around 1:30 pm, yesterday, after being found in possession of a shotgun and five cartridges.
IATF officers also conducted SOE exercises yesterday, which resulted in the seizure of one rifle, one pistol and quantities of ammunition, cannabis and cocaine in the Belmont, George Street Plannings and Upper Santa Cruz districts.
The exercises were spearheaded by ACP Hazel, Snr Supt Spence, Supt. Ramsook and ASP (Ag.) Singh. Investigations are ongoing into all of the above matters.
