A traffic incident in Santa Elena Town, Cayo District, has claimed the life of 20-year-old Kahlil Horace Gongora. The collision occurred at about 4:45 yesterday afternoon on George Price Avenue, near the curve by Casa Castillo. Preliminary investigations indicate that 62-year-old taxi operator Antonio Jaime Smith was driving a gold Geo Prism when Gongora, who was approaching from the opposite direction on a motorcycle, reportedly veered into the taxi’s lane. The motorcycle then collided with the front right side of the car. Gongora, a labourer of Garcia Street in Santa Elena, was transported to the San Ignacio Community Hospital in a passing police mobile. He was pronounced dead at 5:20 p.m. His body was later taken to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Love News understands that while Gongora held a valid driver’s license, the motorcycle’s insurance expired in March. The taxi insurance had also expired two days before the collision. Police collected a specimen from Smith and served him with a notice of intended prosecution as the investigation continues.
