Thursday saw the start of the 2025 Southern Zone South Sectional Championships being held in Plantation ,Florida.
The four-day meet is set to end on Sunday.
Several Jamaican standouts will be in competition to include from Bolles School Leah Chin formerly of Mount Alvernia, and Christanya Shirley formerly of Immaculate.
Also swimming will be Devaughn Robe formerly of Wolmer’s Boys representing TS Aquatics run by Jamaican Andre Bailey and Carolyn Levy Powell of Coral Springs swim club.
It was Powell who earned a spot on the podium yesterday as she took the bronze in the 50 metre backstroke in a new personal best of 30.49 seconds.
That puts her first in the Jamaican CARIFTA 15-17 rankings and second in the overall Jamaican rankings.
She joins a cadre of Jamaican ladies expected to go after Alia Atkinson’s national record of 29.94 seconds.
Those names include Lia Forrester of Utech and Aquamarine Ripples, Leah Chin of Bolles, Leanna Wainwright of Montego Bay High school and Skyelar Richards of Swim Atlanta.
