2026 National EdTech Summit Opening Day Fully Booked as AI Focus Draws Strong Interest

Spaces are fully booked for the opening day of the upcoming 2026 National EdTech Summit, reflecting strong interest in the growing role of technology and artificial intelligence in Belize’s education system. The Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Technology says registration for August 4 is now closed after all available spaces were filled. Registration remains open for the summit’s second day on August 5, but those spaces are also filling quickly.  The two-day event will bring together educators, technology specialists and policymakers for discussions on AI, teacher development, ethical technology use and hands-on STEAM education.  Belizean technologist Stephanie Sylvestre will deliver the keynote address on the first day. Sylvestre is the co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Avatar Buddy, which develops personalized AI learning and translation tools aimed at making education more accessible to underserved communities.  Day two will feature Dr Craig Ramlal, Executive Director of the AI Innovation Centre at the University of the West Indies. Ramlal previously served on the United Nations Secretary-General’s High-Level Advisory Body on Artificial Intelligence and will focus on AI governance, policy and the ethical use of the technology in education.  The invited speakers include Dr Jennifer Clark, an educational leader who has trained more than fifteen hundred teachers and principals through the Belize Teacher Leadership Project.  James Tiffin Junior will also address the summit. Tiffin has more than twenty-two years of experience in maker-centred learning and recently helped lead the national rollout of STEAM Pavilions in Belize.  The Ministry says the summit is intended to provide educators with practical tools and ideas while creating a national conversation about the future of teaching and learning.
