23 Jamaicans in Top 10 of Track & Field Magazine

Twenty-three Jamaican athletes have made it into the top ten of their respective events in the end of year global ranking of respected Track and Field magazine, Track and Field News.

The field event athletes figured prominently in the ranking.

On the men’s side Olympic silver medallist Wayne Pinnock ends the year as the second best Long Jumper in the world with his compatriots Carey McLeod in fifth and Tajay Gayle 7th. World and Olympic champion Miltiadis Tentoglou is the undisputed number one.

Roje Stona who broke the Olympic record to win Discus gold in Paris, finished second in the year end ranking behind Mykolas Alekna of Lithuania with another Jamaican Travis Smikle 10th.

Romaine Beckford who contested the Paris final is ranked number 8 in the world in the High Jump while Jaydon Hibbert who just missed the podium in Paris ends the year fifth in the rankings with Olympic champion Jordan Alejandro Diaz the number one.

Olympic Bronze medallist Rajindra Campbell ends the year fifth ranked in the men’s Shot Put.

Olympic Silver medallist Kishane Thompson ends the year ranked number two in the 100m behind Olympic champion Noah Lyles with Ackeem Blake 7th and Oblique Seville 10th

Roshawn Clarke 5th and Malik James King 10th are the Jamaicans in the men’s 400m hurdles rankings while Rasheed Broadbell the Olympic Bronze medallist is ranked third in the 110m hurdles and Hansle Parchment 7th.

Shanieka Ricketts who won Silver in Paris ends the year ranked third in the women’s Triple Jump while Ackielia Smith who reached the Paris final is ranked 6th.

Danielle Thomas Dodd ended the year ninth in the women’s Shot Put….Lamara Distin 8th in the women’s High Jump.

In Track events Ackera Nugent is ranked second in the 100m hurdles and Daniel Williams 8th…Nickisha Pryce is ranked seventh in the 400m, Natoya Goule 7th in the women’s 800m while Rushell Clayton is number four among women’s 400m hurdlers.

Shian Salmon is 5th, Janieve Russell is 8th and Andrenette Knight is 9th.

Tia Clayton is ranked seventh in the women’s 100m.

The impressive showing by the field event athletes in the end of the year ranking is not a surprise to coaching legend Glen Mills.
