23 Peace Corps Volunteers Begin Youth Empowerment Work in Belize

Twenty-three new Peace Corps Volunteers have officially begun their service in Belize under the Youth Empowered by Sports (YES) Project. The YES project is a partnership between Peace Corps Belize and the Ministry of Tourism, Youth, Sports & Diaspora Relations, which aims to empower Belizean youth through organized sports, mentorship, and development strategies. The volunteers arrived in Belize on May 6 and completed 11 weeks of intensive training, including technical skills for the YES Project, health and safety protocols, and cultural and language immersion. Chargé d’Affaires David Hodge at the U.S. Embassy administered the oath for the new volunteers. Governor General Dame Froyla Tzalam also attended the ceremony and praised the volunteers for working with Belize’s youth. Belizean athlete. Peace Corps Belize has a presence in every district and will welcome a new group of Education Volunteers next month.
