25-Year-Old Motorcyclist Dies in Orange Walk Traffic Accident

A late-night traffic accident in Orange Walk Town has claimed the life of 25-year-old Lorenzo Castro, a fisherman from Guinea Grass Village.  The collision occurred at about 9:40 last night near the intersection of Otro Benque Road and Muñoz Street. Initial investigations indicate that 61-year-old Antonio Novelo was driving a white van north along Otro Benque Road when he turned left into Muñoz Street.  Police say Castro, who was travelling behind the van on an unlicensed motorcycle reportedly without lights, attempted to overtake as the van was turning. The motorcycle collided with the driver’s side of the van, causing Castro to be thrown onto the road.  Castro was transported to the Northern Regional Hospital, where he died while receiving treatment. He was pronounced dead at 10:25 p.m.  According to reports to our newsroom, police found no license sticker or insurance documents for the motorcycle.
