Stephen Gunter, Chairman of the JMMC, Mark March of the Montego Bay Racing Association, and Kedron Kennedy of 876 Streets were the three Jamaicans that participated in the recent 1-week drone training programme in Trinidad and Tobago.
The initiative was funded by the FIA Regional Development Programme and delivered by the Drone and Vertical Mobility Academy, in collaboration with FIA Region-3 and the Trinidad and Tobago Automobile Association.
The Jamaica trio joined participants from across the Americas and the Caribbean, including representatives from the Bahamas, Belize, Canada, the Cayman Islands, the Dominican Republic, Guyana, and the host nation, Trinidad and Tobago.
This programme combined theoretical and practical sessions covering safe drone operation, regulatory compliance, and business applications.
At the end of the programme, each participant had developed proposals for how their Club could apply drone technologies — ranging from the establishment of drone pilot schools to the use of automated drones for circuit race monitoring.
Gunter says Dover Race Way will be the first facility to use drone technology at a race meet.
He says they’ll be moving to certify other members of the racing community.
