Three Venezuelan immigrants, who allegedly invaded the home of another migrant couple in Debe on Monday night, are in police custody, after being caught shortly after the crime.
Barrackpore police are still searching for a fourth suspect, who managed to evade capture despite Highway Patrol officers responding swiftly to the robbery report.
“Policía, these three men now rob me in my house and steal $15,000,” the victim shouted, waving his hands in the air as he ran towards Cpl Balgar and PC Daniel Pierre, who were arresting the men near Club 2000 Bar.
According to a police report, the victims were sitting outside their Hibiscus Drive home around 8 pm when four men approached and announced a robbery.
The men, all dressed in dark clothing and wearing black caps but no masks, were armed with a gun and a cutlass. They forced the couple into the house, tied them together in a bedroom and demanded money. After the husband showed them where it was hidden, the bandits took $15,000 and ransacked the home before fleeing.
The husband later managed to untie himself and his wife. He called the police and ran onto the road to seek help.
While responding to the report, Balgar and Pierre spotted four men walking along Wellington Road who matched the suspects’ descriptions. As the officers approached, one suspect ran towards the TTPost mailing centre and escaped. The other three, aged 19, 26 and 25, were arrested. A search revealed $10,901 in cash on the 19-year-old suspect. Nothing illegal was found on the others.
The victims were taken for medical attention. The suspects were placed in holding cells at the Barrackpore, Ste Madeleine and Princes Town police stations. Barrackpore CID continues investigations.
