The quake struck at 11:02 p.m. (local time) and was centered eight kilometers southeast of Croix-des-Bouquets, at a depth of seven kilometers. It was also felt in nearby areas, including Pétion-ville, Delmas, and Tabarre.
While no injuries or damage have been reported so far, the tremor rekindled traumatic memories of the devastating 2010 earthquake, which killed over 200,000 people and displaced more than two million.
In a statement released Tuesday, the DPC confirmed the coordinates of the quake’s epicenter at 18.53° North and 73.59° West, located just two kilometers northeast of Pétion-ville and 18 kilometers east of the capital, Port-au-Prince.
“Let’s remain vigilant,” the department said, encouraging the public to stay alert despite the absence of casualties or structural damage.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely as the country remains on edge following years of seismic vulnerability.
