41-Year-Old Diovan Hall Shot Dead Near San Antonio Village

Police are investigating the murder of 41-year-old Diovan Hall, who was shot and killed on the outskirts of San Antonio Village in the Corozal District last night.  Hall’s common-law wife, Sharlene Robateau, told Love News that she last saw him approximately half an hour before the shooting. According to Robateau, Hall had gone to a party and told her he would return shortly. She later left her sister’s house and went home ahead of him. Robateau said she had been inside her house for approximately 15 minutes when she heard several gunshots.

Sherlene Robateu, Spouse of Deceased: “When we reached home like fifteen minutes we were laying down and we heard gunshots, give gun shots. And I got frightened and my baby jumped on me. We left it like that and usually when I go home I don’t lock my house I leave it open for him and just last night like something told me to lock the house. So I locked and about after ten his father came to knock. I thought it was him that had come home and when his father came knocking he said “Sharlene, Deovan reached home ?” I told him “No, why?” He said because they heard a couple gunshots and his bike was thrown on the floor, his food, and his slippers and it’s not like him. He saw a white thing, he thought it was as crocus bag like an animal or something. When he flashed the light he saw his son lifeless. His name is Deovan Hall we call him Maho, everybody knows him as Maho. Maho was a loving, caring person. He loved kids especially his two boys he took them everywhere, fishing, hunting, football. Everywhere you see Majo you bet you see his two little boys with him. I don’t know why they killed him but what I know Majo has no problems with nobody. Majo always tells me that he could go anywhere and he doesn’t fear for his life because he hasn’t done anybody anything, he doesn’t, steal, he doesn’t rob anybody. He even opened this shop here for me so that we could have something that we can depend on. I don’t get any information rom the police what happened, they have nobody detained, nothing.”

Police say Hall arrived at his father’s home at approximately 9:20 p.m., greeted him and continued along a pathway leading to his own residence, located about two hundred yards away. Roughly three minutes later, Hall’s father heard six loud bangs and went to investigate. Hall had sustained three apparent gunshot injuries. Investigators found a blue bicycle approximately one hundred feet from his body and recovered six expended nine-millimetre shells near the bicycle.  Assistant Commissioner of Police Hilberto Romero provided an update on the investigation.

ACP Hilberto Romero, Head of National Crimes Investigation Branch:  “Went to San Antonio Village where the report was that there was a shooting victim by a cane field. Police went to the area where on a feeder road a lifeless body from the person was observed with multiple gunshot injuries. He was identified as Deovan Hall of Corozal. Information is that Hall was heading home on a bicycle after attending an event and he was approached by persons in the area who fired shots at him causing his fatal injuries. We’re seeking two suspects in regard to this shooting.”

Reporter: Was that drug related ? 

ACP Hilberto Romero, Head of National Crimes Investigation Branch: “We cannot confirm at this time, he had been arrested before for minor offenses. He was found deceased at the scene.”

Hall’s body was transported to the Corozal Community Hospital and later deposited at the morgue, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.  No arrests have been made, and police have not yet disclosed a possible motive for the murder.
