Between the July 18th start of the State of Emergency (SoE) and up yesterday (July 31), the T&T Police Service (TTPS) has conducted a total of 6,594 searches, arrested 449 people, seized 46 firearms and 626 rounds of ammunition – the most in 5.56mm bullets and 9mm “shells.”

Also in that period, the TTPS seized 67,273.44 grams of marijuana.

This is confirmed in TTPS data showing cumulative totals for operations from 6 am on July 18 to 6 am yesterday. (Thur).

The TTPS has been on the go 24/7 since the SoE was declared at 6 am on July 18.

On the morning of July 18, the TTPS stated that intelligence had confirmed the emergence of a coordinated and highly dangerous criminal network operating from within local prisons.

Intelligence revealed that incarcerated individuals were “leveraging internal and external networks” to plan and execute attacks on targets, including senior police officers, judiciary members, personnel within the Director of Public Prosecutions’ (DPP) Office and prison officers.

Responding to the severity and immediacy of the threat, Commissioner of Police Allister Guevarro recommended to the Government the declaration of a SoE, which was approved.

Ten inmates from the Maximum Security Prison were then immediately shifted to the Teteron Barracks and Staubles Bay in Chaguaramas.
