A Morvant man is in stable condition after he tried to rob a patron at a restaurant in Curepe on Tuesday night.
Police said the 70-year-old patron, who is a licensed firearm owner, was waiting to collect food at a restaurant on the Southern Main Road, around 8.15 pm, when he was confronted by a man and a woman who ordered him to hand over his cash.
The male bandit pushed his hand into the patron’s pocket and pulled out his wallet.
While walking to the door, the victim pulled out his Glock 19 pistol and ordered the bandit to stop.
However, the bandit ran towards the man and tried to wrestle his gun away.
During the struggle, the bandit was shot once in his right arm.
Officers from the St Joseph Police Station were called in and took the injured suspect to the hospital, where he remained up to yesterday morning.
The 20-year-old woman who was with the bandit at the time was also detained by police.

Malabar man shot after attacking relatives with cutlass
A 37-year-old Malabar man is in stable condition after he was shot during a confrontation on Tuesday night.
Police said the man got into an argument with a relative and a neighbour on the corner of Kellewan Avenue and Train Line Road, around 9.30 pm, when he charged at one of them with a cutlass.
One of the men, who was armed with a shotgun, opend fire, hitting the attacker in his left leg.
The injured man was taken to the hospital, where he was being treated up to yesterday morning.
Officers from the Malabar Police Station are continuing enquiries.
Probe into officer’s death
Investigations are continuing into the death of a municipal police officer whose body was found at her Port-of-Spain home on Tuesday night.
Police said officers were called to the Lodge Place home of Jaye Bonard by neighbours around 8.25 pm, who claimed to have tried making contact with her several times throughout the day but received no response.
Officers entered the home and found Bonard’s body on the floor of the bedroom, with white foam coming from her mouth. Her body bore no marks of violence.
Neighbours told officers that Bonard was an epileptic and was prone to seizures.
Officers from the Homicide Bureau of Investigations Region I also visited the scene.
Police said Bonard was last assigned to the Port-of-Spain City Hall.
