Over 720 athletes have entered for the JAAA/Puma National Athletics Championships set for June 26-29 at the National Stadium.

The number is well above the 647 who participated in last year’s staging.

Forty-seven of those entered this year are from other countries who will use the event to achieve qualifying times for their respective disciplines ahead of the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo Japan in September.

One-hundred and four events are on the schedule over the four days, the highest in the championship’s history.

Chairman of the organising committee, Ludlow Watts, says the three days will mirror the World Championships.

Former national sprint champion Elaine Thompson-Herah is not on the list of those entered for any of the sprints, but her long time rivals Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and Shericka Jackson are listed.

Meanwhile, the JAAA has confirmed they’ve identified three meets at which they’ll attempt to qualify the 4x400m mixed relay team, the 4x100m for men and the 4x400m women ahead of the World Championships.

The first will be in Barbados on July 5, the second will be at the London Diamond League on July 19 and the Nacac Championships August 15-17.

The deadline to achieve entry standard is August 24.
