Police are investigating the discovery of a man’s body in the water in the area of Caesar Ridge Road, Port Loyola area of Belize City this afternoon. Best information to our newsroom at this hour is that the man is estimated to be in his 50s with preliminary findings suggesting that he may have drowned. Police were alerted at around two o’clock, and the body was removed from the water shortly after three. The man’s identity is yet to be ascertained up to news time this evening. One of the men who stumbled upon the floating body spoke to our newsroom.
“Well I had some gentlemen fixing my vehicle key and I had my dogs with the big ruckus so I wanted to know who was in the yard. So when I went I saw two police officers and then when I looked in the sea side I saw a person floating then I realized it was a body. So then I just instinct kicked in and I asked the officers if they wanted me to retrieve the body and they told me no because they were waiting for scenes of crime and whatever. And I told them if they don’t get it the bod will go further down to the port and eventually it gets hooked up in the trees in the mangroves and that is how I got a line stick and brought it a little closer and secure it so the officers could take their pictures and so forth. Apparently someone saw it before me and called it in. So they were here but scenes of crime came and they normally take their time to come and do their assessments and they left.”
