The Embassy of Japan, alongside Soft Box Art Gallery, recently joined forces on July 31, 2026, to host an immersive Japanese Sake and Washoku Experience.
The intimate gathering brought together approximately 70 guests for a journey through Japan’s rich gastronomic heritage.
Guests discovered the intricacies of sake, a traditional fermented rice beverage crafted by more than 3,000 artisanal breweries across Japan. Revered worldwide for its extraordinary craftsmanship and seamless culinary pairings, sake production earned a prestigious place on UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage list in 2024.
The event paired the fine beverage with Washoku, Japan’s traditional cuisine, which was recognised by UNESCO in 2013. Defined by its commitment to seasonal freshness, visual harmony and reverence for nature, Washoku offered attendees an authentic taste of Japanese culture.
By bringing these two UNESCO-recognised art forms together, the event offered Trinidad and Tobago a rare, first-hand look at the artistry of Japanese cuisine, leaving a lasting impression on all who attended.
