Abigail Bryce Stars for Jamaica in Losing Effort vs the Leewards

Jamaican batter Abigail Bryce was one of the stand out performers for the national women’s team in their one wicket defeat to the Leeward Islands in the West Indies regional Super 50 over encounter at Warner Park yesterday.

It was a bitter sweet day for the 18 year old Bryce because while Jamaica lost not only the game, but their title as regional Super 50 champions, it was the coming of age of a player who’s shown tremendous potential.

It was Bryce’s first list A half century as she slammed 72 to help steer Jamaica to a respectable 253 for 9, a total they later failed to defend.

However Bryce announced herself on the regional stage, one that could’ve been so much better had she not gotten out 28 runs shy of a century.

Bryce put on a partnership of 82 with captain Rashada Williams who top scored with 86.

She said after losing the skipper close to the end, she decided to take up the responsibility of pushing the score along.

Trinidad and Tobago leads the standings with 27 points, one ahead of Guyana with Barbados third on 24 points.

At the end of the round on Wednesday, the top two teams will qualify to play in Friday’s final where a new champion will be crowned.
