Academy Eagles of Turks and Caicos, and Dominican Republic’s Moca FC sealed their place in the semifinals of the the Swiss-style Caribbean Football Union 24-team Club Shield competition as the winners of Groups A and B, respectively on Monday.
At the Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva, Academy Eagles earned a 5-0 win over Rovers SC led by a hat-trick from Junior Paul in the 17th, 51st and 85th minutes in Group A.
Anthony Stewart had opened the scoring in the 14th minute while Kyle Belizaire added his name on the scoresheet in the 74th as they completed the dominant win to add to ther default victory over AS Capoise on Saturday.
With the victory, Academy Eagles ended on on level terms with Academia Quintana of Puerto Rico, with both on six points and the same positive-eight goal difference and eight goals scored, leaving it to the fair play rules to determine the winner.
Down at at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo, Academia Quintana won 3-o over SV Real Rincon.
Marc Nieves struck the opening goal in the 33rd minute before Heuyin Guardia put the game out of reach in the 83rd and 85th with a quick fire brace.
At the Larry Gomes Stadium, in Malabar, Moca FC edged Guyana Defence Force 1-0 to top Group B with a maximum of six points.
The hero for Moca FC was Yohan Parra who struck the lone goal in the 14th minute to decide first place in the group and send the Dominican Republic side to the semifinals.
Elsewhere in Group B, SV Britannia blanked St Paul’s United Strikers FC 2-0 at Mucurapo with Richard De Sousa opening the scoring in the 49th, and ’
Reangelo Boekhoudt extended his tally to two by striking in the 78th..
And at Couva, Paradise FC International whipped AS Étoile de Matoury 4-2.
For Paradise FC, Romaric Boutou scored in the 13th to put Étoile de Matoury in the lead and Jules Habbo converted from the penalty spot in the 40th to double the advantahe.
However, in the second-half the Grenadians mounted the comeback with four unanswered goals, coming from Keston Williams in the 64th and 73rd, Joshua Isaac in the 80th, and Kevon Maitland in stoppage time.
The semifinals are carded for August 1 followed by the final and third-place playoff on August 3.
