Agriculture Delegation from The Bahamas Visits Belize Ahead of NATS

Belize’s agricultural sector is receiving regional attention this week as a high-level delegation from The Bahamas visits the country to strengthen collaboration and exchange expertise.  The visiting team from the Bahamas Ministry of Agriculture met with senior officials from Belize’s Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and New Growth Industries, including Minister Rodwell Ferguson.  The delegation is in Belize ahead of the 2026 National Agriculture and Trade Show and is using the opportunity to tour key agricultural production areas across the country. These include the BSI and Santander sugar facilities, the Citrus Products of Belize Limited in Stann Creek, and the farming community of Spanish Lookout.  Discussions during the meetings focused on shared priorities such as food importation and exportation, highlighting the importance of regional cooperation in strengthening food security and agricultural trade.  The Bahamian delegation includes senior figures in agriculture and food systems, among them Godfrey Eneas of the Bahamas Centre for Food and Nutrition Security, Dr. Jason Sands, Director of Agriculture, and representatives from trade facilitation and food safety authorities.  The delegation is expected to remain in Belize until Sunday, May 3.
