Agriculture minister, Floyd Green, has moved to dismiss the claim by the People’s National Party, PNP, that the Holness administration resumed the importation of Irish potatoes.

During his contribution to the budget debate on Tuesday, Opposition Leader Mark Golding stated that the late former PNP agriculture minister, Roger Clarke, had removed the staple from the country’s importation basket in his thrust to achieve self-sufficiency.

Golding also claimed the current Jamaica Labour Party administration reversed the move. But Minister Green says the status quo remains.

Minister Green says the administration is taking steps to increase local production.

Meanwhile, Minister Green says significant strides have been made to boost onion production in the country.
