Jamaica’s agricultural sector has recorded growth of 13.7 per cent between the April to June quarter of this year. That’s according to agriculture and fisheries minister, Floyd Green.

The figure is an increase from the 3.1 per cent growth for the January to March period. At that time, Jamaica recorded an unprecedented 221 tonnes of production within a quarter.

Minister Green spoke with Nationwide News at the 71st staging of the Denbigh Agricultural, Industrial and Food Show in May Pen, Clarendon on the weekend.

He says the sector continues to see growth despite setbacks caused by Hurricane Beryl last year and the ongoing drought conditions.

Green told our news centre that direct support from the government is being provided to farmers across the island.
