Alex Fonseca Called To The Bar Joining Belize’s Legal Profession


Belize City’s legal community is welcoming a new member to its ranks following the call to the Bar of young Belizean attorney Alex Fonseca, the son of Belize’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Francis Fonseca.  The proud father shared the milestone on social media, congratulating his son and celebrating the achievement as a proud father.  The moment marks a significant professional accomplishment for the young attorney and continues a tradition of legal service within the Fonseca family. Minister Fonseca himself is also a trained attorney-at-law who has served Belize in several major public roles, including Attorney General, Minister of Education, and currently Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade.  Alex Fonseca’s admission to the Bar represents the completion of years of legal training and qualification, allowing him to now practice law in Belize. Being “called to the Bar” formally recognizes a lawyer’s certification to appear before the courts and represent clients within the country’s legal system.  To date, Belize has an estimated 250 lawyers with about 15–20 attorneys who hold the title of Senior Counsel (S.C.)
