All Belize Police Officers to Receive Christmas Ham or Turkey

For the first time in its history, the Belize Police Department has announced that every police officer and civilian staff member will receive a Christmas ham or turkey, an unprecedented holiday gesture recognizing service across the force. The initiative was made possible through the support and leadership of the Minister of Home Affairs and Enterprise, Oscar Mira, and Commissioner of Police, Dr. Richard Rosado. According to the Department, the holiday distribution reflects appreciation for the dedication, sacrifice, and hard work of both sworn officers and civilian personnel throughout the year. The announcement arrives amid ongoing efforts by the new leadership to enhance morale and institutional cohesion as part of broader reforms within the Belize Police Department. Both Minister Mira and Dr Rosado are relatively new in their respective roles, as the ministry and police leadership have undergone recent changes. Mira was appointed Minister of Home Affairs and Enterprise in November’s cabinet reshuffle and has identified restoring public trust in the police as a priority as he settles into the portfolio. Rosado was appointed Commissioner of Police earlier this year in April, a transition that was presented by government officials as part of an emphasis on continuity, professionalism, and reform within the Belize Police Department.  Since taking office, both have publicly articulated a focus on strengthening community engagement, increasing accountability, and improving operational effectiveness within the force, making staff welfare and morale part of his broader reform agenda.
