WITH JUST one point separating the teams ranked ninth to 13th in the Jamaica Premier League (JPL) regular season standings, today’s fixtures could prove pivotal in the fight for survival.
Five teams are looking to avoid the drop, with Harbour View, Chapelton Maroons, Dunbeholdon, Humble Lion, and Molynes United yet to secure their safety.
Four of the relegation-embattled teams will be in action today, while Chapelton Maroons’ next fixture will see them in Monday Night Football action.
The Stars of the East, who sit ninth on 33 points, will be looking to pick up all three points when they travel to the Edward Seaga Sports Complex for a tough away date against Tivoli Gardens.
Harbour View are without a win in their last three games but have also picked up valuable points with draws against Cavalier and high-riding newcomers Racing United.
It will not be an easy task for Harbour View, however, as Tivoli Gardens are chasing qualification to the play-offs and will look to sink their lowly rivals.
In a relegation clash, Molynes will play host to Racing at the Waterhouse Stadium, as the Kingston-based club are looking to pull off the great escape for a second season in a row.
Molynes enter the fixture off a 2-0 win against Dunbeholden and will be hoping to continue their form against Racing.
Molynes are anticipating a rough end to their campaign, as their final two games of the season will see them taking on defending champions Cavalier and regular season champions Mount Pleasant.
TENSE CLASH
In perhaps the most tense clash this afternoon, Dunbeholden and Humble Lion will meet in a relegation six-pointer at the Effortville Community Centre.
Dunbeholden, who sit 11th with 33 points, will be looking to recover from their 2-0 loss to Molynes last time out.
Craig Richards, coach of Dunbeholden, said, with just three games left in the season, the team cannot afford another loss.
“We have to find a solution because, if we want to avoid the drop, then we must find a solution and start picking up some points,” Richards said after the defeat to Molynes.
“We have to be as positive as we can be and see how many points we can get from the next three games.”
For Humble Lion, currently 12th in the standings on 32 points, the goal will be the same, as they have only recorded one win in their last six games.
All matches are set to kick off at 3:30p.m.
