Allan Pollard Sr. Says PUP Should Have Cleared Path for Son’s Mayoral Run

1 week ago 7

As the media awaited the arrival of Allan Pollard at the PUP headquarters, we spoke with his father, Allan Senior, who has been a well-known figure in the Lake Independence area and the Cordel Hyde camp.  According to the senior, he is upset with the PUP as he feels they should have asked Eluide Miller to step aside for an endorsement of his son.

Allan Pollard Sr., Father: “My son is too straight for those bunch of snakes. All of them are snakes because my son put out his head for one of the councillors and the minute that he got elected he turned on him so he’s a snake. They asked him to step down the last term and he did what they asked him to do. This term they could have done the same thing and told Mr.Miller step aside, it’s not your turn, but they decided to have a convention so we’ll do a convention. If they could have done the same thing for my son and my son stepped aside they could have told him that he’s not ready at this time and this is Mr.Pollard’s turn but they decided that we’re going to have a convention so the convention is what we’re going to have. Let’s start the war. My son has experience, three terms of experience. My son sat on so many boards, my son is ready for this, my son is raised by the city so my son knows exactly what the city needs. He was with the whole council, was with Bernard all the way just due to Bernard is his son in law he decided that well he will do his thing for Mr.Miller which I will do the same thing but if he could vouch and say that Mr.Pollard is a good person, Mr.Pollard does what he has to do and they don’t have any dirt on my son. My son was in there with no kind of dirt so they can’t pin point. The only thing my son has is his name. Not trying to get rich or anything, he has his name and his name only.”

Reporter: Are you upset with PUP considering that they’re not asking Eliude to step aside ?

Allan Pollard Sr., Father: From my perspective, this is not from my son, yes I am mad. I am very mad because they asked my son to step down two different times and they could have done the same thing and said Mr.Miller to do the same thing that they did to Mr.Pollard. So I have to be mad. If I say I’m not mad I’m telling a lie.”

Reporter: So you’re saying this is not about money but street talk is saying that Allan is only running because he wants to be paid off again to step down.

Allan Pollard Sr., Father: “Allan has never been paid off. You could ask anybody in PUP if they ever paid Allan Pollard to step down. Allan Pollard never needed any money. We grew up poor but we don’t need money and nobody can pinpoint, nobody from the PUP can pinpoint and say that they gave Mr.Pollard money to step down because we don’t need money. The only thing we have is our name and we could lift our head above water any time and anywhere. Just like his uncle Cordel Hyde nobody could pinpoint and say anything about him the same way my son is carrying himself.”

While the father believes there should have been an endorsement, Allan Junior says he welcomes the convention in August.

Allan Pollard, PUP Mayoral Candidate: “I don’t think that’s the Prime Minister’s job. The Prime Minister’s job is to lead this party and if he believes that it’s time we have a democratic process between the two of us, if he believes that is healthy then that is healthy then is something we need to do. Great actually. We were hanging out the other night at an event. We’re good. Cordial. We work together, we have an excellent relationship my Mayor with all the councilors as well. We have an excellent relationship. In council meetings you know we all get along. We have the support of the people that’s all that matters, the delegate on convention day. But I respect all my colleagues and their decisions to support who they want. My message is have young representation and having people on the ballot then if Miller wants to contest then he should contest. Every young person should contest not only Miller, any young person that wants to run, any older person that wants to run. It’s a democratic party and I think it’s respect between everybody and at the end of the day we just have to put in the work and make sure you bring out your delegates and make sure they come out to support you that’s all. I never expected an endorsement. Everything I have done since I entered this party in 2018 I had to work for and I plan to continue working for that so I don’t need any endorsement we will work for it. I kind of like the convention thing you know and in the past I’ve done very well in conventions so it’s nothing that I’m scared of our frightened about. So the endorsement thing is neither here nor there.”

What is perhaps the most curious factor in this morning’s interview with Allan Pollard Junior is his openness to embrace new faces at city hall.  His remarks came when he was probed into the support of the current councilors who seem to have favored Eluide Miller.

Allan Pollard, PUP Mayoral Candidate: “No councilors today. I’m looking to see the pool of the entire councilors. I understand a lot of people are applying and there are a lot of good people too so some are there already, some new ones I want to see everybody there and embrace anybody and work with anybody.”

Reporter: But none of them are beside you Mr.Pollard. They were all here for Mr.MIller.

Allan Pollard, PUP Mayoral Candidate: “Well here I have my family, my friends, my supporters and I have my God so I’m good.”

Once the deadline for applications closes on Friday, PUP’s national campaign committee will meet to review the applications and form a vetting committee.  Once the process concludes, the convention for Belize City and other municipalities will follow in August.  Love News understands that the PUP is aiming to have all slates finalized in time for the party’s anniversary in September.
