GEORGETOWN, Guyana (CMC):

With the Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League (CPL) set to begin on August 14, the Guyana Amazon Warriors have announced key changes to their squad following an injury setback and a temporary replacement.

New Zealand all-rounder Glenn Phillips has been ruled out due to injury, paving the way for Australian power-hitter Ben McDermott to join the Warriors.

McDermott, fresh off his stint with the Hobart Hurricanes in the ExxonMobil Guyana Global Super League (GSLT20), brings explosive batting prowess to the side.

With 2,782 runs in 99 Big Bash League (BBL) innings at a strike rate of 138.41, including a top score of 127, McDermott’s experience in Caribbean conditions makes him a valuable addition.

Meanwhile, Pakistani all-rounder Iftikhar Ahmed has been called in as a temporary replacement for Hassan Khan, who will miss the Warriors’ first three matches.

Iftikhar, who recently featured for the Rangpur Riders in the GSL, is known for his aggressive batting, boasting a career strike rate of 130 in international cricket.

The revised Guyana Amazon Warriors squad for CPL 2024 includes: Imran Tahir (C), Shimron Hetmyer, Romario Shepherd, Shai Hope, Ben McDermott, Gudakesh Motie, Moeen Ali, Shamar Joseph, Keemo Paul, Dwaine Pretorius, Shamar Brooks, Kemol Savoury, Hassan Khan, Iftikhar Ahmed, Jediah Blades, Kevlon Anderson, Quentin Sampson, Riyad Latif.
