Belize’s diplomatic and educational ties with Cuba remain strong, even as the island nation continues to navigate significant economic challenges. That’s according to Belize’s Ambassador to Cuba, Dr. Perlita Aldana, who is currently in Belize for a brief visit before returning to her post. Dr. Aldana, who assumed the ambassadorial role in November 2025, brings a deeply personal connection to the bilateral relationship. She is herself a graduate of Cuba’s medical training program, one of many Belizeans who have benefited from Havana’s long-standing scholarship support to the region. Appearing on The Morning Show today, Ambassador Aldana described the Cuban people as resilient, optimistic, and welcoming, even amid ongoing hardships linked largely to external economic pressures. She noted that Cuba experienced measurable progress during periods when certain embargo restrictions were eased under the Obama administration.
