Belize’s Ambassador to Mexico, Oscar Arnold, is advising Belizean car dealers to reconsider or delay travel into Mexico at this time, as Mexican authorities continue to manage cartel-related retaliation following the major anti-narcotics operation. The advisory comes amid reports of heightened tensions in several Mexican states, including incidents involving the burning of vehicles and buildings. Ambassador Arnold is specifically cautioning Belizean car dealers who routinely transit through Mexico to exercise extreme vigilance. He is urging those who have not yet departed the United States to remain where they are until conditions further stabilize.

H.E. Oscar Arnold, Ambassador of Belize to Mexico: “In these areas that we mentioned, Jalisco, Michoacán, Guadalajara, Tamaulipas, there are incidences that were taken care of. There may be others we don’t know as yet. So for car dealers my advice to them would be if they haven’t crossed over the US-Mexico border as yet, would be to stay in place. Give it a few more days for it to become even calmer before you try to make the trip back home.”
The embassy says the appeal is precautionary and aimed at protecting Belizean nationals who frequently travel the corridor for vehicle purchases and transport.
