Minister of Rural Development and Local Government Khadijah Ameen says she will not be intimidated by threats to her safety and remains committed to serving her constituents and the wider public.
Speaking to the media today, Ameen praised the security services for their efforts, saying, “I want to commend those who are responsible for our safety, for their continuous advice, their continuous information-gathering, intelligence-gathering, and putting the necessary systems in place to keep us safe.”
She stressed the importance of maintaining her presence in St. Augustine and across Trinidad, noting, “The threats or perceived threats will not hinder our work and our commitment.”
Ameen also highlighted the government’s anti-corruption initiatives, stating, “The Prime Minister has been bold enough to take the bull by its horns… cutting out corruption will free up resources for food cards, support for school children, laptops, and opportunities for young people entering the workforce.”
While acknowledging that some may oppose the government’s measures, she said, “There are hundreds, perhaps thousands of people who are very happy with the stand that we have taken… I will not be intimidated; I will continue with my work.”
