American Fined for Marijuana Possession at Belize Airport

An American sales consultant was fined $1,500 today after being caught with 38 grams of marijuana at Philip Goldson International Airport yesterday. Telika Sharrell Truss, 45, of Montgomery, Alabama, pleaded guilty to the importation of a controlled drug. She paid the fine immediately and was released. This incident follows similar cases this week. On Wednesday, two brothers from New York, Patrick and Christopher Noel, were each fined $1,500 after being found with 18 and 29 grams of marijuana, respectively. Authorities note an increase in foreigners and Belizean expatriates being caught importing controlled drugs over the past year.
