Anti-Litter Campaign Targets Motorists Entering Belmopan

The Belize Department of the Environment took its National Anti-Littering Campaign to the entrance of Belmopan, with an awareness and waste-collection activity aimed directly at motorists. The initiative was carried out in collaboration with the Belize Department of Transport. Drivers entering the capital were encouraged to hand over garbage from inside their vehicles, allowing the campaign team to collect it for proper disposal rather than having it discarded along the roadway.  The DOE says the activity is part of a wider effort to confront littering and plastic pollution across the country. The department notes that garbage thrown from moving vehicles can end up in drains and waterways, contribute to flooding, and take away from the appearance of Belizean communities.  The campaign is also encouraging motorists to keep a small garbage bag in their vehicles and dispose of waste responsibly when they reach an appropriate bin or collection point.  The DOE says keeping Belize clean requires public participation, stressing that the message behind the campaign remains: “Our Belize, Our Responsibility — Bin It.”
