Armenia Village Resident Killed in Hummingbird Highway Collision

Also, in the Cayo District, a 54-year-old Armenia Village resident lost his life following a traffic incident on the Hummingbird Highway on Friday afternoon, while a 14-year-old passenger was also injured in the collision.  Police responded shortly after 3:00 p.m. between miles 46 and 47 on the Hummingbird Highway in the vicinity of Armenia Village. Upon arrival, officers observed a white JAC truck and a damaged blue Lifan motorcycle at the scene.  Initial investigations revealed that the truck, driven by 27-year-old Joseph Tuyud of Benque Viejo Town, was traveling north along the highway when a motorcycle carrying two persons reportedly emerged from an unnamed road onto the highway. Police say Tuyud attempted to avoid a collision by applying his brakes and swerving to the left, but was unable to avoid striking the motorcycle.  The motorcycle was being driven by 54-year-old Joel Cruz Fuentes, a security guard with 14-year-old Evan Canti as his passenger. Both were transported to the Western Regional Hospital before police arrived at the scene. Police later received information from a relative of Fuentes that he succumbed to his injuries at approximately 7:15 Friday evening. The driver of the truck was detained and a urine sample was obtained as part of standard investigative procedures.
