Los Perfectos and Arnett Gardens will both be looking for miracles as they look to overturn their mammoth deficits heading into the second leg of the Jamaica Women’s Premier League (JWPL) semi-finals today at the Constant Spring Sports Complex.
The two teams face an uphill task as Arnett will take on Cavalier at 4 p.m. in the first game of a double header while Los Perfectos will face defending champions Frazsiers Whip in the second game of the day at 7 p.m.
Arnett will need to be at their very best in the second leg, following their 4-0 defeat to Cavalier in the first leg last week.
The Junglists, who had ended the regular season in second, entered the semi-finals as one of title contenders, but now sit on the brink of elimination.
Head coach Garnett Lawrence, who has taken the role following the departure of Tamera Williams mid-season, now has the responsibility of crafting the perfect comeback plan.
Drawing on his team’s fighting spirit, Lawrence said his players still have what it takes to swing the momentum in their favour.
“We know we have the second leg. We’re defeated but we’re not deflated,” he said.
“We will be taking it one goal at a time the next game. It’s Arnett Gardens, we’ll bounce back. We got a beating like this in the first round of the game so we know how it felt, so what we’re doing now is trying to inflict some pain.”
IMPOSSIBLE TASK
Another coach faced with an impossible task is Los Perfectos’ head coach Maurice Duncan, who will need to overturn a five-goal deficit after his players went 5-0 down to defending champions Frazsiers Whip in the first leg.
It will be a difficult ask for the Manchester-based club as Frazsiers Whip are yet to be defeated this season.
In fact, the defending champions have won all their games but one, a 1-1 draw against Arnett during the regular season.
For Courtney Dowdie, head coach of Frazsiers Whip, his team will be looking to continue their goalscoring efforts as they aim for a successful title defence.
“This a platform for the girl to make their names and they give their best all the time,” Dowdie said.
“It’s just a mother game so we’re going to take the game like a fresh game and see how best we can move forward.”
