IN WET, muddy conditions at the Alpha Boys’ Home on Saturday, Cavalier and Arnett Gardens played out an exciting 2-2 draw in the first fixture of the second round in the Jamaica Women’s Premier League (JWPL).
Shanel Spence gave Cavalier the lead in the third minute of the contest, before Briana Crosby pulled Arnett level in the 34th minutes.
Cavalier took the lead in the second half, this time through Shadie Shirley in the 54th minute, before Tuanshae Hamilton rescued a point from a free kick in the 62nd minute.
The scoreline was identical to their first meeting this season, played at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex in March.
Cavalier was quick off the mark as the ever-reliable Spence proved why she is touted as one of the league’s top goal threats with a showcase of instinctive forward play.
Capitalising on a poor first touch by her Arnett marker, Spence broke through on goal, rounded the goalkeeper before firing home from a tight angle in the opening five minutes of the contest.
Arnett went hunting for a swift response but saw several of their early chances stymied by a resolute Cavalier unit.
Cavalier’s resolve did not last long, however, as in the 34th minute, Arnett pulled level.
Crosby scored the leveller for the ‘Junglists’, lashing home a header from a corner kick routine.
Arnett came close to taking the lead in the 42nd minute as Shikira Douglas danced by her markers before laying off a pass to Hamilton.
The resulting effort was, however, sent just high.
Just like they did in the first half, Cavalier were quick to score after the referee’’s whistle, taking just nine minutes to regain the lead.
Spence once again broke through on goal, but her shot was deflected into the path of her teammate, Shirley, who made no mistake with an empty goal in front of her.
Arnett would not be denied, however, and in a repeat of the first half, they quickly pulled level in the 62nd minute.
Hamilton’s looping ball from a free kick would fall into the back of the net, slipping through the fingers of Cavalier custodian Danielle Flake.
The result means Cavalier are second in the JWPL standings on 26 points, trailing league leaders Frazsiers Whip on a perfect 33.
Arnett, however, fall to fourth in the standings on 23 points, overtaken by Los Perfectos, who move into the third position on 24 after their 9-0 whipping of Federal United.
