ARNETT GARDENS assistant coach Fabian Taylor is happy his team has recovered from an administrative setback and returned to winning ways after a 2-0 victory over Vere United in their Jamaica Premier League (JPL) football match at the Montego Bay Sports Complex yesterday.
Goals from Fabian Reid in the second minute and Warner Brown in the 86th marked the difference between the teams as Arnett bounced back from news they would be docked three points (two in reality) and handed a 0-3 loss against Portmore United for using an ineligible player in the game which had ended 0-0.
“Very good three points away but we didn’t play as well as we should. Knowing that we lost all three points in the boardroom, we came to do a job and the boys did it,” Taylor said.
With just a round to go in the JPL, Taylor believes it is time for Arnett to manage their squad for what has been the longest season for the players in years.
“We have 13 games to go, it is a very long season. Our thing is to manage the players as best as possible going forward,” said Taylor.
Arnett wrapped up their 17th win in 27 matches, moving to 57 points, behind league leaders Mount Pleasant Academy. Vere are losing their fourth game on the bounce, and remain second from bottom on 19 points.
Vere coach Lenny Hyde believes despite the results, Vere have it in them to turn around what has been a disappointing season to date.
“For both ends of the pitch, it hurt us. We just have to wheel and come again. We just have to continue working, get the players to believe that this is not the end of the road. We have 13 games left, we just have to continue to work hard and hope we can get some victories out of them,” Hyde said.
“We looked a little better tonight, but we gave up a goal in two minutes of play, and that is unacceptable. That was the setback, and we tried to get back into the game. We tried and make some changes, lift the spirit of the players. However, we gave up a goal in the last minute of play,” said Hyde.
