Police in Belmopan have made a breakthrough in the investigation into the double murder that claimed the lives of two young men earlier this month. The fatal shooting occurred on the evening of February 13 near the Belmopan City Council area along Unity Boulevard. In an update to the media, Assistant Superintendent of Police Stacy Smith confirmed that investigators have since made an arrest in the case. Smith says nineteen-year-old Jayhan Flores has now been formally arrested and charged for both murders.

ACP Stacy Smith, Assistant Superintendent of Police: “As a consequence of the ongoing investigation into the double murder of Omar Alvarez and Calbert Westby Jr which occurred on Friday 13 February 2026 in Belmopan City police have formally arrested and charged 19 year old Jahan Flores for two counts of murder. The investigation is ongoing. What I can say is that the arrested person I someone who was familiar with both of the deceased.”
For context, on Friday the 13th, officers responding to reports of gunfire discovered the motionless bodies of twenty-one-year-old Zamar Alvarez of Blue Creek Street and twenty-year-old Calvert Webster of Mahogany Heights on a sidewalk behind the Ministry of Foreign Affairs leading toward the Belmopan Police Station. Both had suffered gunshot injuries.
