Twenty-three-year-old Evan Andrews, a resident of Mahogany Heights Village, walked free from court this week after his girlfriend, the alleged victim, requested no further action against him in an aggravated assault case involving a knife. Andrews appeared before Magistrate Ludlow Black in Court this morning, visibly injured with a swollen right eye. He was unrepresented and faced a single charge of aggravated assault with a deadly instrument, specifically a knife. Andrews pleaded not guilty to the charge. However, the virtual complainant, his girlfriend, took the stand during the arraignment and informed the court that she wished to withdraw the complaint and requested no further court action against Andrews. Despite her earlier report to the police that Andrews had pulled a knife on her, her request in court led the Prosecutor to offer no further evidence. Consequently, Magistrate Black withdrew the charge against Andrews, resulting in his immediate release.
