Twenty-two-year-old Belize City resident Charleston Green will not stand trial for attempted murder after the prosecution discontinued the case on the day his High Court trial was set to begin before Justice Candace Nanton. The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions entered a nolle prosequi, effectively ending the attempted murder proceedings, after the alleged victim, Dixon Ramirez, did not appear in court to testify. Without the complainant’s evidence, the Crown could not proceed with the matter. Green had originally been charged following an August 2022 shooting incident in Belize City. Police reported that after the shooting they intercepted Green, during which officers allegedly came under gunfire. He was subsequently charged with attempted murder, grievous harm, use of deadly means of harm, aggravated assault against three police officers, and keeping an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. Although the attempted murder charge has now been dropped, Green was immediately escorted back to the Belize City Magistrate’s Court because he is already serving a prison sentence stemming from the same incident. In 2025 he was convicted of firearm and ammunition offences along with three counts of aggravated assault for firing at police officers. He received one year for ammunition and one year for each aggravated assault count, with the sentences ordered to run concurrently, resulting in a three-year term. Authorities say Green was captured shortly after the shooting and found in possession of a loaded firearm. His earliest possible release date is estimated to be July 2027.
