RACING UNITED picked up a valuable point in their hunt for a top-six spot after playing to a 0-0 draw with Harbour View at the Harbour View Mini-Stadium yesterday.

Racing now climb to 45 points, back into seventh over Waterhouse on goal difference, and are now one point behind sixth-placed Tivoli and four adrift of fifth-placed Cavalier.

Harbour View are 10th in the table with 32 points.

Meanwhile, leaders Mount Pleasant stretched their lead at the top of the table to six points after a 3-0 win over last-placed Vere United, who have lost seven of their last nine.

Miguel Joseph opened the scoring after 24th minutes, before Rashawn Williams made it 2-0 in the 31st.

Haitian youth sensation Franco Celestin then sealed the win for the league-toppers with an 86th-minute goal.

Mount Pleasant moved to 72 points, while Arnett remain in second on 66 points and Montego Bay United, third on 65.

Mount Pleasant coach Theodore Whitmore said it was a much-improved display from their previous two matches.

“Pleased with some aspects of the performance and pleased with the result. The last two games, we weren’t creating chances and scoring goals. To come here today and get three goals is rewarding,” he said.

Vere are rooted at the foot of the standings on 23 points and desperately in need of points, a fact which technical director Craig Butler said forced them to go all out for the win. The plan backfired.

“Mount Pleasant came out with a strong team. I can’t give a lot of excuses, but I think the boys played well.

“We had to go for the victory. So we pushed players forward and they caught us on the counter,” he stated.

At the Ferdi Neita Park, home team Portmore, through a 53rd-minute goal from Shaquwell Henry, defeated struggling Molynes 1-0.

Portmore are fourth in the standings on 57 points, while Molynes are second from bottom on 29.
