Bahamas passports

The Bahamian government has “strongly denied” allegations that it is involved in selling passports “like candy,” dismissing the claims as “explosive” and unfounded.

In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Permanent Secretary in the ministry has already written to the Commissioner of Police, urging an investigation into the matter.

“Perhaps Ms. Green will exercise her patriotic duty and share any evidence she has in her possession. If she cannot, the country will know that the allegations are bogus,” the ministry said.

The allegations were made on August 19 by Charlotte Green, chairman of the Coalition of Independents, in an audio post on Facebook. In her remarks, Green directly criticized Foreign Affairs Minister Fred Mitchell, claiming that Haitians with Bahamian passports were traveling daily to the Turks and Caicos but were unable to speak English or complete immigration forms.
