BRIDGETOWN, Barbados – The Barbados Netball Association has answered an urgent call to host the Americas Netball Qualifiers for the 2027 Netball World Cup after original hosts St Vincent and the Grenadines were forced to withdraw due to venue complications.

Americas Netball announced on Monday night, confirming that the regional showdown will now take place from October 19 to 26 at the newly refurbished Garfield Sobers Sports Complex gymnasium.

The Wildey facility has recently undergone multi-million dollar upgrades, bringing it up to the standard required for major international competitions.

St Vincent and the Grenadines had been slated to host the qualifiers but pulled out after revealing that planned renovations to transform the Arnos Vale Sporting Complex into an indoor facility would not be completed in time for the championships.

The development marks a significant coup for Barbados netball, with the island stepping onto the international stage just months after completing extensive renovations at the Garfield Sobers Complex.

The 2027 Netball World Cup is set for Sydney, Australia, running from August 25 to September 5. The host nation has already secured its place at the table, joining a prestigious lineup of automatic qualifiers based on the World Netball rankings as of December 1, 2025.

New Zealand (second), Jamaica (third), England (fourth), South Africa (fifth), and Uganda (sixth) have all received invitations to compete.

The remaining ten spots in the 16-team tournament will be filled through five regional qualifying events taking place across the globe this year, with the Americas qualifier now carrying added significance as teams battle for their shot at Sydney 2027.
