National Youth players Darrius Batooosingh and Luke Ali guided reigning champions Presentation College Chaguanas to a commanding 112-run win over ASJA Boys College in Round Two of the Secondary Schools Cricket League on Tuesday.

Batoosingh and Ali came together with the score on 7-1 when Jaden Joseph was caught by Isa Ramkissoon off the bowling of Fareed Bann for four in the second over.

The duo stayed together for 30 overs and two balls as they frustrated the ASJA bowlers, although they struck only four fours between them.

Batoosingh scored 59 from 93 balls (three fours), and Ali scored an even 50 from 100 balls (one four) as they set the foundation for the champions to post 156 for seven from their 38 overs as rain reduced the teams quota of overs.

Rylee Gangoo and Isa Ramkissoon both took two wickets each from ASJA.

Given a relatively modest target of 157 in 38 overs, the Presentation bowlers and fielders made the target a lot more daunting than it actually was.

In only the third ball of the innings, Jayden Ramkissoon was run out for one, and six balls later, Kyle Ramesar found the edge of Kayden Manohar’s bat while Christiano Ramanan saw the ball fall safely into his gloves for four as ASJA was reeling at ten for two.

ASJA were already five wickets down by the time they had 25 runs on the board, with Isa Ramkissoon (2), Mark Ramkissoon (2) and Samuel Stewart (5) were all back in the pavilion in the 7th over.

Fareed Bann and Yassar Ameer both scored ten runs each as they tried to push the total as far as they could but they were bowled out for 44, still 112 runs behind.

Other national youth players, Alexander Chase took three for 11 and Aneal Rooplal took two for 13 as the ASJA players had no answer for the more experienced bowlers that were helped by four run outs.

The champions go to the top of the table as they were helped by other matches being abandoned through the weather.
