The Belize Defence Force has launched both an internal investigation and is cooperating with a criminal police investigation following allegations that a female soldier was raped by a fellow serviceman at Fairweather Camp. Love News understands that the alleged incident occurred during the early morning hours of yesterday, June 29. According to information received, the 22-year-old female soldier reported waking up to find a fellow soldier in her bed wearing only boxer shorts. She subsequently reported the matter through the chain of command, triggering the BDF’s internal response protocol. Sources tell Love News that immediately after the complaint was made, the BDF dispatched both a counselor and a psychologist to the Toledo District to provide support to the complainant. She was transported to Price Barracks before being escorted to a police station, where she formally reported the matter to investigators. Love News has also been informed that while the complainant is expected to be placed on compassionate leave or transferred to another posting, the accused soldier remains on active duty pending the outcome of the ongoing investigations. Sources indicate that any decision to suspend or place the accused on administrative leave will depend on the findings of the internal inquiry or developments in the criminal investigation. As part of the police investigation, the complainant was taken to Punta Gorda Hospital, where she reportedly declined a medical examination despite visible injuries to her legs. The Belize Police Department continues its criminal investigation while the Belize Defence Force conducts its own administrative review into the allegation. No charges have been filed at this time, and the accused soldier has not been publicly identified as investigations remain ongoing.
