The Belize Defence Force Run Club was among the participants in the first annual Roots and Routes 10K Relay Trail Race, hosted by the Belize Botanic Gardens in the Cayo District.
The event brought together runners of varying ages and abilities for a course designed to promote physical fitness, teamwork and environmental conservation. Several members of the BDF Run Club received awards for their performance, while the Force congratulated all its athletes who completed the jungle trail. Organizers also praised participants for leaving the course free of garbage and for using refill stations, reusable water bottles and hydration pouches instead of disposable cups and single-use plastics. The Belize Botanic Gardens says the effort demonstrated that sporting events can be both enjoyable and environmentally responsible. According to the BDF, its participation is one way to encourage healthy living, physical fitness and wellness among its members.
