Belize Electricity Limited (BEL) has deployed a second team of power line technicians to Jamaica to continue supporting electricity restoration efforts in the aftermath of Hurricane Melissa. According to BEL, the team departed Belize yesterday, and will work alongside crews from the Jamaica Public Service Company Limited (JPS), the island’s sole electricity distributor, as well as regional partners coordinated through Caribbean Electric Utility Services Corporation (CARILEC). The BEL contingent is led by Technical Supervisor Jeremy Jex and includes power line technicians Gregory Kerr, Brian Gentle, Emry Gill, Owen Nolberto, Paul McCalla, and Andres Catch. The team will assist with restoring electricity to communities impacted by hurricane-related damage, building on the work of BEL’s first deployment to Jamaica in November 2025. BEL said the initiative reflects its commitment to regional cooperation and mutual assistance among Caribbean utilities, emphasizing that shared expertise and coordinated response are essential for recovery following severe weather events. The company reaffirmed that through solidarity and collaboration, Caribbean nations can more quickly restore critical services and support affected communities in the wake of natural disasters.
